What an unstitched suit is

An unstitched suit is a complete set of fabric, usually the kameez piece, the salwar or trouser piece and a dupatta, sold as a length rather than as a finished garment. You take it to a tailor and have it made to your own measurements.

It is the way most South Asian clothing was bought for generations, and it is still the way to get a genuinely good fit. A ready-made suit is cut to a standard size and then altered towards you. An unstitched suit starts from your measurements, so the shoulder, the sleeve length and the fall of the kameez are right from the beginning rather than approximately right.

It also gives you control over the style. The same three metres of printed lawn can become a straight kurta, an A-line, or a short kameez with a wide trouser, depending on what you ask for.

What is in this collection

Two kinds of fabric, for two different purposes.

Printed cotton and lawn sets, in floral prints, for everyday wear and for summer. These are the pieces people buy several of at a time and wear through the season. Lawn in particular is the standard summer fabric across Pakistan and northern India for good reason: it is fine, it breathes, and it takes a print well.

Embroidered crepe and boutique sets, for occasion wear. These carry hand embroidery on the kameez panel and are bought for a specific event, then stitched to a more structured cut.

Prices in this collection run from around $49 to $175, which is generally less than the equivalent ready-made piece, because you are paying for fabric rather than fabric plus construction.

We can stitch it for you

You do not need to find your own tailor. Our team stitches and alters in store, with most work finished in two to three days, so you can choose the fabric and the cut in the same visit and collect the finished suit the same week.

This is the part that is difficult to get if you are buying unstitched fabric online from overseas. You end up with the fabric and then still have to find someone to make it. Both Brampton stores handle the whole thing.

If you are ordering the fabric online instead, we ship across Canada, with free shipping over $100 within Ontario and over $150 CAD elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an unstitched suit?
An unstitched suit is a set of fabric pieces, typically including a kameez, salwar or trouser fabric, and dupatta, sold as fabric lengths rather than as a sewn garment. A tailor then cuts and stitches the pieces to your measurements and preferred fit.

What does unstitched clothing mean?
Unstitched clothing means the fabric has been prepared with its prints, embroidery, embellishments, and required fabric pieces but has not been sewn into a finished garment. This allows you to have the suit made to your measurements and adjust details such as the kameez length, sleeve style, neckline, and trouser fit.

What is the difference between lawn and cotton?
Lawn is a fine, lightweight cotton fabric with a smooth finish and a lighter drape than standard cotton. It is particularly popular for warm-weather South Asian clothing because it feels light and breathable. Standard cotton is generally heavier and has more structure.

How much fabric is included in an unstitched suit?
An unstitched suit set typically includes fabric for the kameez, salwar or trousers, and dupatta. The exact fabric lengths and components can vary by set, so check the individual product details before purchasing. If you need a longer kameez or wider trousers, contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether the set has enough fabric for your preferred measurements.

Can you stitch an unstitched suit for me?
Yes. Raaja Raani offers stitching and alterations in store at both Brampton locations. Most stitching and alteration work is completed within two to three days, depending on the requirements of the garment.

Can I choose how my unstitched suit is stitched?
Yes. One of the main advantages of buying an unstitched suit is the flexibility to have it made to your preferred measurements and styling. Depending on the fabric and available material, you can discuss details such as kameez length, sleeve style, neckline, and trouser fit with our team before stitching.

Can I visit Raaja Raani to shop for unstitched suits?
Yes. You can visit either of our Brampton locations to view available unstitched suits and discuss stitching options with our team.
